Position Summary:
The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) at Lakeside Childcare will plan, organize, and
implement high-quality programs for children aged 18 months to 5 years. RECEs will lead
activities stimulating children’s intellectual, physical, and emotional growth while ensuring their
safety and well-being. We seek a passionate, energetic individual with a child-centered approach
to care committed to interactive play, learning, and development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The educator’s duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Program Development and Implementation:
○ Plan and implement daily childcare programs using the center’s planning tools and
forms that support children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social
development.
2. Lead Interactive Activities:
○ Facilitate interactive activities such as storytelling, singing, excursions, and
creative expression through art, dramatic play, music, sensory exploration, and
loose parts play based on the children’s interests.
3. Create a Safe and Supportive Environment:
○ Ensure the physical, emotional, and social safety of all children in compliance
with the standards of the Sarnia-Lambton Public Health Unit, the Ministry of
Education, and Lakeside Childcare.
4. Nature-Based Learning:
○ Integrate nature-based experiences (e.g., outdoor activities like nature walks) into
the programming to foster children’s connection to the environment.
5. Health and Hygiene Support:
○ Assist children in developing healthy eating, dressing, and toileting habits.
6. Assess and Discuss Children’s Progress:
○ Assess children’s abilities, needs, and progress regularly and engage in
meaningful discussions with parents and team members.
7. Administer Developmental Screenings:
○ Conduct ASQs (Ages and Stages Questionnaires) and ANQS (Australian National
Quality Standards) as directed.
8. Maintain Child-to-Staff Ratios:
○ Ensure child-to-staff ratios comply with Ministry of Education standards.
9. Supervision and Transitions:
○ Directly and constantly supervise children at all times and facilitate smooth
transitions between activities while ensuring their safety, comfort, and support.
○ Guide and give instructions to ECA on transition procedures.
10. Documentation:
○ Keep detailed written records of children’s progress and daily activities, including
using the Lillio app for photos and descriptions.
11. Collaboration with Families and Staff:
○ Build positive, collaborative relationships with co-workers, parents, and
community service providers to ensure children’s development and well-being.
12. Positive Behavior Guidance:
○ Foster positive behavior, self-regulation, and healthy self-esteem in children.
13. Contribute to Team and Center Operations:
○ Support a cooperative, healthy team environment and actively contribute to the
efficient operations of the center.
14. Meal and Rest Support:
○ Lead family-style meal service and assist children with rest periods and toileting
routines.
15. Classroom Cleaning:
○ Participate in maintaining a clean and hygienic classroom environment.
16. Policy Adherence:
○ Ensure full adherence to all center policies and procedures, ensuring the safety
and well-being of children.
17. College Registration Compliance:
○ Maintain an active and good-standing registration with the College of Early
Childhood Educators (CECE). Complete all CECE’s professional development
(CPD) requirements and stay up-to-date on early childhood education trends, best
practices, and regulatory changes.
Knowledge and Skills
● Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
● Strong understanding of HDLH Ontario’s pedagogy methodology, play-based, and
nature-based learning.
● Familiarity with diverse learning styles and developmental needs in children.
● Understanding of trauma-informed care principles.
● Proven ability to build meaningful connections with children and families.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
● Ability to physically assist children in program participation as needed.
● Familiarity with the Lillio app (asset).
● Excellent time management and organizational skills.
● Quick to learn routines, names, and responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
● Legally eligible to work in Canada.
● Early Childhood Educator diploma or degree from an accredited institution.
● Active registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
● Clean Vulnerable Sector and Criminal Record Check.
● First Aid and CPR Level C (Infant and Toddler certified).
● Proof of updated vaccinations as required by Ontario’s Ministry of Health, including
Tetanus.
● Proof of Early Childhood Education experience (Reference letter).
